Modeling (Nicenet)

What drives people to desire a career in modeling or acting? Why do people truly want to be famous?

My Answer: Honestly I can't answer that question anymore because now everyones trying to model only for the money and fame, and the people that actually want to model because its what they love doing are left out. But for those who love modeling and don't just do it for money and fame they desire it cause its something they feel is a challenge to them and it's like they are happy doing it and are working for what they have. The feeling of doing something you like and that your good at is wonderful. Its like asking why do people desire to work in the medical field which would be because they love the fact of helping others.
But like I said now everyones just trying to get into modeling is only because they find it easy and you can get famous faster.

Abortion comment

::There Response:: FROM: Jennifer Deus
SUBJECT: Abortion

i think that abortion should be legal, i think that it is a girls right to do what she wants with HER unborn child. i don't think that the rest of the United States should get in on her personal life. if a woman cannot support the child, or if she is a teen and doesn't want the embassment of being pregnant at school or dropping out, then yes, she should be able to choose what she wants to do.

::My Response::
Im pro-choice on this subject because it isn't right that if you are young and choose to have sex and get pregnant that you can just have an abortion and get away with it. And if the case is she cant afford it or cant take care of the child then theres always adoption. But then again there should be a time for abortions to be legal when the women is a rape victim and does not wish to carry the baby of some man. But other than that i strongly believe abortion shouldnt be legal.

Reality Tv (nicenet)

Reality tv... ehh what's new? Thats all that ever comes on tv anymore. Theres always a new show every week. I think most of them are pointless and dumd, but then you have to ones that are dealing with regular daily activities and issues that are actually worth and interesting for watching. So all in all, there all the same just different people.

A Drop of Milk

Think Through:

1) I don't understand why he always wanted to defeat man if he created man. What was the point of making man if you just wanted to defeat man.

2)The world was created by a huge drop of milk. But then Doondari came down from above and started creating things which help make new things occur. Such as the creation of stone which evolved into the creation of iron. Then later he created man and then defeated man because he became too proud.

3)N/A

4)In the story there were many defeats. It starts off with blindness being created by Doondari to defeat man but then blindness became too proud. Then sleep was created to defeat blindness but sleep can cancel out blindness because you can wake up and open your eyes and you wont be blind anymore. Then worry was created to defeat sleep because if you worry sleep can't happen. But then to defeat worry they made death because if your dead you can't worry cause you would be dead. But lastly of course like all the other death became too proud so Doondari came back eternal and eternal defeated death.

5)I think he came back as Gueno the eternal, because if your eternal you can't be defeated.

6)I find that people become too proud and forget about things. Also that we all start from nothing and have to build ourselves up but not much people remember and as I said earlier they become too proud.

7)If man had not been proud there would have never been any defeats which would make everyone equal and bland and there would be no progress, nobody would learn from mistakes.

8)Well in all three stories man was created but then of course man has faults but that's looked down upon but then the higher beings of some sort if any try to make them better but then that just causes more problems and defeats.

9)I don't think its very satisfying because nothing was specific and you don't know how it occurs other then defeats and errors in the humans. I think it would have been better if it was more specific.

Rain Clouds

central conflict main character atributes plot summary

In the story the "When Rain Clouds Gather" by Bessie Head there are a lot of main characters but the plot of the story seems to revolve around a man named Makhaya. There are many things going on in the book in chapters 5 & 6. We learn that the government falls pretty much of disappers after a conflict come about between the two brothers that govern then town in which Makhaya is currently residing. After escaping in the first chapter of the book for an unknown reason. Also in chapter 6 he witnesses a traditional wedding in the town in which he resides between his friend Gilbert and Makhaya's friends daughter Maria.

A lot of the plot has to do with algriculture and crops because Makhaya is live with Gilbert. Who is incharge of the farming process of the town. Makhaya is a very educated smart wise man. But he is a little reserved. There isn't much known about him in the book. Only that hes refugee and wants to start a new life and have a family. To say the least hes qwite mysterious . He isn't a big fan of talking politics him and Gilbert had a mini confrentation in one of the chapters . But everyonce in a while he talks about a piece of paper that people keep in there pocket and about blowing things up. I think he escaped his homeland because he was being acused of being some kind of terrorist. I think hes a very interesting character to find more out about. I think we have to wait a while before we find out who the real Makhaya is.

Think Throught Pillow Book

1) I think that the most interesting part of the Pillow Book was the dog that was banished to the dog island for chasing a important cat.

2) I believe that Shonagon sent the word to Tadataka because Shonagon does not believe that Okinamero is back.

3) N/A Active Reader.

4) I think that she means that she was suspecting a different reaction. And it surprised her that something she thought was so beautiful was not that important or impressive to other people.

5)Shanagon is her own person and she has a mind of her own which makes her unique. She does her own thing.

6)I think that characteristics of humans haven't changed like being embarrassed. No matter what race, culture, or ethnicity you are people get embarrassed. Another thing is people falling in love. Whether its now in the 21st century or thousands of years ago certain things never change.

Think Through

1) I think that the third poem was more descriptive and used a lot adjectives.

2) I think he was referring to a war. "Land of plague and fever" is about the bodies and the plague that killed them. The "horned dragons" were the enemies.

3) The theme was about a once beautiful palace was destroyed. It talked about, red autumn leaves scattered over the place and about his gold chariot that's now gone.

4)It talks about someone hugging a baby to their chest to muffle her screaming. Which wouldn't appear in a history book because it's not personal.

5)N/A active reader.

6)They both talked about statues/monuments. But on the Jade Flower poem it was about the destruction and Ozymandias was about the building of a statue.

7)Yes they do support this statement.Because he used some heavy topics like war but by using so many small details made it come to life.

8)It related to now at days because there are still wars going on today. So the modern day soldiers and families can relate.

Poems Of Ancient Rome

1) I thought the advice given in the poems were truthful and wise. In the first one it is better to live life and not worry. In the second poem it's true because it means that things always bad forever and that not everything is as bad as it seems.

2)He told Leuconoe to accept whatever is bothering him and have fun and live for the moment. Because something probably happened to Leuconoe which he didn't like or can not accept.

3)I think it means that its better to live with what you have and not rub it into other peoples faces and be thankful because if you rub it in it might be taken away.

4)I think that the "Seize the Day" was more simple to understand and more straight forward to the point then "Better to live...".

5)They both teach because they both have morals in the story. But they are delight because the way he tell the story and uses similes and metaphors.

6)In the first poem he says "...this is the last that breaks the Etruscan sea against the rocks." It made me imagine the sea crashing against rocks in my mind. In the second poem it talked about a giant pine tree swaying in the wind.

7)I think that the second poem was better in the fact that more people forget to live humble and thankful then the other poem that the moral is more common. More people remember to live life. But not everyone remembers were they come from until it's gone.

8)I think it means that you shouldn't make your hopes so big just in case it won't happen. I believe in both sides because if you have big dreams and you really believe you can achieve them then it could be possible. But never the less you shouldn't make them too big and then not get them and get your hopes up and then be disappointed and sad and sob for the rest of your life.

Stereotyping (NiceNet)

Hi My Names Kristin. Where I have grown up and lived for the past 16 yrs. are Saginaw,Michigan (14 yrs.) and Sarasota, Florida (2 Yrs.). In this time i have found a lot of stereotypes and been stereotyped. I personally just think people do it to make themselves feel better because they arent confident. I think people just need to accept every one as who they are. We are all equal, but very unique. We just need to let people be who they want to be and not stereotype.

My Life (Nicenet)

My life is okay but, can be very stressful and tiring at times. But I would never change it for another. My life is full of new challenges everyday and success. My life consists of my family, friends, loves, and the things I have overcome and achieved. There are some times when I wish I didn't have the life I do but, then I think that there are many other people who are wanting my life and wanting to have what I have and what I live with each and every day. I love my life, and I live every moments to the best if i can.

Analysis of Womens Role

Women in Ancient Greece where looked as inferiors and they were lower then men. They had no opinion they where not aloud to have a voice and speak their mind. The following quote summarizes my point. "Your great glory is not to be inferior to what God has made you, and the greatest glory of a woman is to be least talked about by men, whether they are praising you or criticizing you.

Mandela and Pericles

1) They both honor who they are and where their from. Biko was killed by being beaten to death for his cause and fighting against racial segregation. The soilders where killed for war and for fighting for their country.

2)To remeber the death of Biko was important because it helps to remeber the struggle and to remeber what happend. Nelson wanted a more humane society for his people and for them to get along.

Movies (Nicenet)

A recent movie I have seen was Saw 3. I'd have to say it was alot better then the rest of the series. Basically what this movie showed was the explaination of all three movies. It showed how it began and how its ends. Also its not as graphical and terrifying as the other two. I wouldn't recomment this movie for any one under 13 or if you have a weak stomach. But if you liek scary, nasty movies then WATCH IT.

Pause and Reflect Questions...And Thinking Through

Pause and Reflect

1) pg 266- My impression towards Oedipus as a leader is that he comes off not brave abd coward of himself because is says how he wept throught the nights. It makes him seem like hes moping and like has no confidence. My impression would change if he stood up to being a better leader and stoped crying.

2) pg 269- I believe the cause of the plague in Thebes is the king had died.

3) pg 272- The details that helped me visualize Thebes as a city of death were its stating that thebes is dying and death is spreading death.

4) pg 275- The curse Oedipus puts on the killer or killers of Laius was the plague.

5) pg 281- Tiresias names Oedipus as the murderer of Laius.

6) pg 291- Oedipus turns against Creon because he was told that Creon was plotting to kill him.

7) pg 299- Oedipus becomes fearful when he hears that piece of information because he feels hes being haunted/stalked.

8) pg 303- What Oedipus learns about Polybus from the messenger was that he is dead and gone from growing age.

9) pg 307- It came about that Oedipus was raised as Polybus' son Because he was left on the hill with his feet pinned together and was found and given to Polybus.

10) pg 313- Oedipus discovers that he was the son of the kind Laius.

11) pg 322- Oedipus blinds himself by taking a pin from his wifes mothers dress and why was because he thought he was a disgrace because the prophecy came throught that he was marrying him mother and he has killed his father.

Thinking Through
Pg. 283
1) Oedipus sent for Tiresias because he is the only one who know about the death of Laius.
2)The Chorus feels that hes a great leader.
3)I think Oedipus is determined to discover the murderer of Lauis to make peace. Fearful that it will happen to him.

Pg. 300

1)At the place were three roads meet Oedipus killed a man that was his father the king but he didn't know he was his father or the king.
2)Oedipus ran away from his home in Corinth because he was scared that the prophecy about him killing his father would come true so he left.
3)Jocasta thought that the prophet and the prophecies were lies.

pg:314

1)The shepherd gave the baby to Polybus.
2)They think that hes a bad leader for killing a generation and that hes a bad leader.
3)He accidentally made the prophecy come true because he didn't know he was adopted and he ran away from people he thought were his parents but weren't really his parents and killed his real dad and married his mom accidentally.
4)I predict that he will probably kill himself or runaway.

Poems by Sappho

1)I think out of all three poems, that I understood the second one "He Is More Than a Hero" the best. I feel I understood that poem because it made more sence to me and got straight to the point. All in all I also thing I understood it best because it got me interested, unlike the others.

3)In the first poem the speaker is discribing a person and a setting. The person she is talking about is some girl that reminds her of a friend that had moved away and got married. The setting he is describing is the thronging cavalry.

In the second poem the speaker is describing like a situation about there feelings toward someone known as their hero.

The third poem the speaker has described a setting that is the holy temple that seems to be a graceful place.

4) I would have to say "She values intimate moments of friendship." applys to her best because in her first poem it tells how Helen reminds her of an old friend.
Another statement I would say best applys to her is "She appreciates the beauty of nature." because in the third poem she says how the cold springs babble through apple branches.

6)I think Christina Aguilera would do a swell job singing these songs because she has a strong voice and its very powerful. I think it would get the meaning out and more clear.

Writing Options 2

Remembering A Teacher

2.)Recall the best teacher you ever had, in any subject. Think about his or her methods of getting you to excel. Was this teacher like or unlike Drona? Present your ideas in a brief reflective essay.

The Best teacher I ever had would have to be my 5th grade teacher Mr. Ferry. He was a fun and random person. He was my math/social studies/language arts/science teacher because it was elementary school and we didn't switch classes. His methods toward getting his students exceled was making every thing fun, because in his eyes if its fun it will be done, but if lame then it there will be pain. Another method was he made the work hands on activities so that we would understand it better and he would relate it to our interests. This teacher in a way was like Drona because he has his own ways of teaching, but there weren't weird like Drona's. He just used common sence on what will help kids pay attention. All in all due to the way he made every day fun and exciting, I did learn alot in his class.

Poem. I Believe/Life. (Nicenet)

Kristin Demijohn
Booker High School

I Believe.
Life is to short to wake up in the morning with regrets.
It's just long enough to be what you want to be.
Life is for having a reason to live.
Make a difference, make a statement, make history.
Love the people who treat you right, and forget those who dont't, control the way your surroundings blossom and burn aroudn you,and believe that every thing happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, take it.
If it changes your life, let it.

Nobody said life was going to be easy, they just promised that it would all be worth it.

Gilgamesh

1)I thought it was interesting cause everything he worked for like vanished cause he lost the prikly vine that was sopose to make your youth come back. But he learned from his journey and he engraved it on stone for other people to learn also.

3) Gilgamsh can't accept the fact people die because one its a hard thing to get over especially since it was someone very close to him. Also i think hes affraid of death because he saw the way his friend died and hes scared the same thing will happen to him and he wants to aviod that.

4)He wanted to show him all he has done all he has accomplished being the king of Urk. (this is a guess) Also that he was showing him that it wasnt flooded like they would have expected after the big flood.

5)The event that had the strongest affect on Gilgamesh was obviously the death of his friend Enkidu cause he would have never gone on this journey if he didnt feel reponsible for his friends death.

6)I think he would be a wiser king unlike in the begging when he got ahead of himself. He might also apprecite life more because he knows how short it can be.

7)In our world today we know there is no way to aviod death and we know its coming. And we know theres no way around it unlike Gilgamesh who wanted a cure.

Think Through Mahabarata

1)My reaction to Arjuna was he was the smartest one to comprehend what the teacher, Drona, was trying to get her students to do without being specific.

3)Aruja had many traits but he was extremely skilled in using weapons. I think they admired him for that because he could defend himself and hunt.

4)I think Drona was a good teacher because he wasn't obvious he didn't tell you things straight up. He made you think a little. I think his teaching methods where interesting, he kinda liked to trick the students like with the alligator stunt, he was testing them to see who would react correctly.

5)I think Indian parents still say this story to their children how things aren't really as apparent as they seem and to focus and sometimes things are more obvious then you may think and that you shouldn't over think. Because all the students over thought they all answered the question just as Durona was asking it. But he was just trying to trick them. If the task was to aim and shoot at the bird and concentrate on the bird why would you care or see the people around you.

6)Drona reminds me of Mr.Meyagi from karate kid because he gave him tasks that didn't seem important at first but really helped the karate kid later in his fighting.

7)I think the lesson in the story was that not to think too much about the right answer and sometimes things are obvious but we tend to over think. Yes, I believe this moral is true because I myself tend to over think and then i notice that it was really more simple then i made it out to be.

Greek Culture

1) The religion of the ancient Greeks is different from Jews, Christians and Muslim because they didn't have a holy book such as sacred writings.

2)The Olympian gods are like humans being because they showed love, hate, and jealousy. They are different because they lived for ever.

3)Some features of the Athenian democracy are a lawmaking body called the assembly passed laws and elected generals.

4)The three greatest thinkers of ancient Greece are Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

5)Some events included in the Olympic games are boxing, wrestling, javelin and discus and many more races.

Family (Nicenet)

Hi, I think family is one the main things you need in this world to survive. Without it most of us would be nothing and would have nothing to turn back on. When theres no one around and you need help your familys will always be there unlesss you abuse that and always run to them for help when you need to start to learn on your own. Most people use the fact that there familys are always going to support them. Someone without a family is like a car with no motor IT DONT WORK. Soo I think Family is the most wonderful thing in the world.

Egyptian Literature

Critical Thinking
2. The tone of Nu's speech was kind of worried and disturbed, as if he had fear of the after life. The situation is a very important towards the Egyptians because its there thoughts and feelings about what their after life is going to be like.
3. The speaker thinks that Ra should be praised for opening the new horizon and making joyous days.
4. The speaker is delight about dreaming of standing next to her love because she is waiting or wanting to him to purpose to her so that dream will come true.
6. I think the last story "Whenever I leave you, I go out of breath", because all the other story's provide what the characters want not what there feeling and this story is how shes feeling about being with some one and how they make her feel.
7. The ways that the two poems differ are one is talking about being more in the relationship like marriage and the other is talking about the way she feels when she is with or without her love.
8. Egyptians attitudes compare to my society because both of us appreciate everyday life and have the same attitudes towards love.

Quest Story, Finding Nemo

In guest stories/movies its like a mystery that leads you on a journey. The movie Finding Nemo, A fish named Marlin was a single parent of his only son after an attack that destroyed the rest of the family. The first day of school for Nemo he gets captured by a scuba diver and taken to live in a dentists office in a tank. While he was taken Marlin and his new clueless friend Dory set off to find Nemo. Nemo, still stuck in the tank with his new friends, was trying to escape before he was given to the dentists niece as her new pet.
